Switzerland's Junges Theater Basel
Junges Theater Basel is made up of young people from around the city of Basel who want to make theatre. They are interested in creating performance reflecting power structures in society.
As part of the application process for Contacting the World we asked companies to go somewhere different and collaborate with someone new. This is what Junges Theater Basel did.
Junges Theater Basel decided to split their activity into three parts. Firstly, they went to the city hall of Basel to introduce the company. Every member of the group presented themselves at the position of the speaker of the parliament with a personal demand on their behalf, something they would ask the mayor to do. The second stage was to mirror people on the street, on a bench or waiting at the tram, in front of a shop window etc. Finally, they interacted and asked members of the public to go on and do things on their behalf.
